Severe Heat & Drought
If you don’t know what a wet bulb chart is and what those temperatures mean for your safety and activity levels, then you haven’t been paying attention. It’s a tactical advantage to know. You can read more here
Some of the earliest posts on this blog are from 2023. Infrequent wet bulb events in the UK, but their frequency is increasing along with their ferocity. Kevin Hester writes about how wet-bulb temperatures will be the leading global killer in the near future. You don’t need to be a scientist to know how to check if the temperature is safe for physical exertion. But you might need to suspend your mistrust of climate science to accept that these heatwaves aren’t natural.
This Is The Climate Emergency that Extinction Rebellion thought they could demand the government to act on.
This is what overshoot-driven collapse looks and feels like at the moment. This is global warming. Adaptation is no guarantee of survival. We are close to 2°C, and we have some of the worst, stupid, genocidal and greedy political leaders in history and stupid (Bönhoeffer) people following them.
Something’s Off? Damn right, what’s off is that this is now climate chaos. Of course, the people pumping out content saying, erm, something’s off, and then waffle on for half an hour about nothing much, are too frightened to mention climate change in case they lose half their audience. The AMOC collapse looks increasingly inevitable. I can imagine man-made climate change deniers freezing to death while celebrating the return of the predicted Ice Age. English homes are designed for cold, wet and windy England; they lack the insulation, heating and living regime for prolonged sub-zero weather. Societal breakdown does not drive civilisation collapse. It’s not going to bring about a reset, but a change in the uniformity of the current climate, which for the last 8000 years has been stable. This is what I call the Goldilocks climate niche for agriculture. Because it is just right. The Bönhoeffer reference is especially relevant for other people using my content, which is a compliment, but get the context right. Climate change means we lose that just right niche for arable agriculture. What that means is that the price of grain and, therefore, bread goes up. This price rise impacts everything else. So here is my question: what are you going to grow when you get your piece of land?
Growing food takes a lot of practice. Expecting to bug out and then produce enough food if you have never done it before, and with an unpredictable climate which is rapidly changing, with challenges like wet bulb temperatures, will be challenging.
Is Sewage Management Really That Much Of A Worry?
Long before power outages cut sewage, the AMOC collapse could freeze sewers and mains water pipes. This could be a much larger problem and conduit for disease, or we could apply common-sense homesteading experience. Gail Bradbrook, when talking about collapse, says we need the guys who build things. I’m presuming she means the people who know about off-grid sanitation.
I did enjoy the guru’s sermon about plucky post-collapse humans, dystopian survivalism and the possibilities of frozen sewage during a post-AMOC collapse scenario. Just imagine I could well have assembled one of the toilets you used at the BGG. Gail Bradbrook exclaims, “We need the people who build things”. The question is, do the people who build things need the people who are asking?
The hippies have had composting sorted out for decades. The composting toilet is the art of using your waste productively.
Post-Collapse Water
Is 2000 litres enough? Some of it is stored in insulated containers so it doesn’t freeze.
Organisation
The Green/Climate/civil rights movements have a long history of leaderless, decentralised, federated organisational structure breaking right down to affinity groups and lone operators as well as a network of radical green ecological communities. To some extent, operating on Amish/Quaker principles. The structural ideology is inclusion, diversity and anti-fascist.

In a Crisis, the hippies do luxury, Gail Bradbrook might yell, “We need the people who build stuff” I get the feeling some of the preppers are saying this too while voting for Reform. This is not how you attract skilled operators.
Doomers For A Future, Think of it as a Zen Quoan.
SolidarityPrepping is a decentralised, federated community of like-minded anti-fascists and former climate activists. Many of us have lived off-grid and are homesteading. #SolidarityPrepping supports the work of Team Collapse and Dr Tadzio Mueller in Europe and shares the same ethos.
I had spent several years in deep conversation with the late Tristan Sykes from Just Collapse.
Solidarity prepping is common-sense climate preparedness. It costs me about £100/ years to run all this. I have a full-time job, and I fit all the rest around this. If you find my work useful, support me.
