The Climate Crisis is a Water Crisis: Global Water Bankruptcy, Living Beyond Our Hydrological Means in the Post-Crisis Era: A UN Report on Water Overshoot.

“The report makes the case for a fundamental shift in the global water agenda—from repeatedly reacting to emergencies to “bankruptcy management.” That means confronting overshoot with transparent water accounting, enforceable limits, and protection of the water-related natural capital that produces and stores water—aquifers, wetlands, soils, rivers, and glaciers—while ensuring transitions are explicitly equity-oriented and protect vulnerable communities and livelihoods.” https://unu.edu/inweh/collection/global-water-bankruptcy

Neither policy paper talks about water bankruptcy.

Pathway to stronger public control of the water industry revealed: Water Bill to remove caps on government share ownership in water firms.

The Prime Minister announced today (29 September) that the strengthened Water Bill will remove the current limits on government ownership of shares in the major water and sewerage companies in England.

Public interest should be at the heart of how our critical services operate. The Government intends to increase public control to deliver cleaner waters, fairer bills, stronger accountability and better outcomes for customers and the environment. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/pathway-to-stronger-public-control-of-the-water-industry-revealed

House of Commons Library: What is ‘water bankruptcy’?

What does Individual Water Security look like, what does it cost, and what does it mean?

10 x 2.20-litre barrels at a cost of £10/per barrel delivered. They are more expensive if you buy less. These are food-grade MDPE with airtight lids.

Britain Is Water Bankrupt: Beware of Watered-Down Preparedness Advice — Pun Intended

1.5°C is very different from pre-1.5 °C. Britain’s climate has entered a new era of months without rain and severe drought in Central England from April to October. Heatwaves started in May, and these were not driven by the “Godzilla” El Niño; this is just climate change. Britain, like the rest of the world, is in an age of water Bankruptcy. Britain’s food is grown on some of the most drought-impacted land.

This is a critique of The Climate Majority Project’s reports & Rupert Read and Caroline Lucas’ output on various YouTube channels and podcasts in the context of integrity, honesty and actual understanding of the preparedness skills they have opinions about.

Xylem Water Filtration: Plant-Based, Sustainable Water Filters Approved by MIT Engineers

The Gold Standard: Settling, Filtration/Flocculation, Chemical Sterilisation (chlorine-based) and Boiling.

Water filtration can be achieved with Xylem water filters, sustainably and without expensive equipment. MIT engineers have made filters from tree branches to purify drinking water. Prototypes tested in India show promise as a low-cost, natural filtration option. My own experiments with pine and ginkgo have been very successful, and this is the method I teach, coupled with boiling.

Resilience & Mutual Aid Require: Planning, Calories, Water & Cooperation

Water: 2-3 litres /person /day for drinking/cooking. The Challenge is to wash in under 4-5 litres and recycle the wastewater into the garden. The water you wash with does not need to be potable; raw rainwater is fine.

The roof of your home is a rainwater catchment. Rainwater harvesting is central to the Solidarity Prepping ethos. Water sovereignty is important, especially considering we have had droughts the last 2 years. If the majority of UK homes held back 2-4000L of rainwater or more, that’s water not on the countryside and water for the community market gardens.

Drought & Over-Extraction of Water, Coupled with Accelerating Global Climate Heating, Were Driving The Riots in Iran

Iran is now grappling with its sixth consecutive year of drought, while heatwaves pushed temperatures above 50°C (122°F) during the last summer.

The past water year, ending in late September 2025, was one of the driest on record, with the current year shaping up to be worse, with Iran receiving only 2.3mm (0.09 inches) of precipitation by early November, down by 81% compared with the historical average of the same period, the Meteorological Organisation said.

A whopping 19 dams – up from nine three weeks ago – are on the verge of drying out, with less than 5% of their capacity remaining. Dozens of others are not faring much better, according to data from the Water Resources Management Company.” Al Jazeera

Hydration In Heatwaves & Making Water Safe To Drink

If you have a fridge and a freezer, you are among the privileged few with access to cold drinks and ice. The rest of the world makes do with room-temperature water. If the water that comes from the tap is safe to drink, you are part of an even smaller privileged minority who live in luxury while the rest of the world drinks dirty water and risks a multitude of waterborne killer diseases.

1 litre of water /day will lead to kidney failure. It’s not clever to think that this is a survival skill. The bare minimum is 2ltr/day under normal conditions. During heatwaves, water intake should increase to 3, 4, or 5 litres, with electrolytes and extra salt in your food.

Water in the Ecological Crisis: A Dwindling Resource: Harvesting, Storage & Processing

I grew up in a country where the tap water wasn’t safe; it was brackish. We went to collect water for drinking and cooking from desalination stations.

In any prioritisation setup for survival, water is at the top of the list. Know your local sources and have a method already established for collecting and storing potable and non-potable water. Preppers talk about purchasing and storing water for short-term survival. My approach is different. I am looking for long-term survival and storage.
