What we adapt to this year will be different next year. The planet is warming. If it makes you anxious, that is normal. 2026 will be our children’s best year; what comes next for them will be worse than what we will ever endure.
It’s an existential threat:
- A Heatwave in Europe killed 20,000 people in a week in June
- The UK is under a campfire and disposable BBQ ban, and the moors are on fire
- 2026, the UK has had its worst harvest on record
- This has been the hottest May, June and July EVER.
However, there is good and bad advice floating around: George Monbiot has a plan. Do You? In his 2025 column in the Guardian, he explains how he has become a “prepper”
“Britain’s food supply is precarious – and Trump’s chaos is spreading. I have a plan. Do you?”
“I hate to sound like a prepper, but I feel bound to confess that over the past month I’ve been stockpiling food. I think if you can, you should do the same. I’ve put aside 25kg of rice, 15kg of dried chickpeas, 15kg of bread flour, 7kg of chapati flour, 5kg of oats, six litres of vegetable oil, a slab of tinned tomatoes, some nuts and dried fruit. This, with the vegetables we grow, represents about two months’ supply for our family.” https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/mar/16/britain-food-supply-donald-trump-stockpile
“There won’t be plucky humans roaming the post-collapse landscape”, Manda Scott, one of her boring podcasts.
However, Author, podcaster, and self-styled Shamanic Practitioner Manda Scott disagrees. She does not think stockpiling food is useful, but fails to mention why, only that she will talk about that later.
I would have also hoped that at this point, this blog clearly shows that the repetition of her projection of “plucky humans roaming the post-collapse landscape” is both inaccurate and stupid. Perhaps she would also tell her fans that it is entirely her invention and projection. This is not an idea which I have ever promoted. So when she sits chuckling to herself about it, she is laughing at her own joke.
By telling her followers not to prepare for food shortages, she condemns them to starvation while she grows food for herself on the land she bought with the money she has taken from them for the woo she pushes.
At this point, her recommendation that people don’t put by a little extra food for future hard times (2026 was Britain’s worst grain harvest) is both irresponsible and narcissistic. Western Spirituality is a Toxic Grift, and I am not the only person who thinks this. By telling her followers not to prepare for food shortages, she condemns them to starvation while she grows food for herself on the land she bought with the money she has taken from them for the woo she pushes.
In 7 generations, if anyone survives that long, and we were to ask what we did right and wrong, I suspect they will be thankful for the survivalists who taught them about how to survive civilisation collapse. However, the Shamanic Practitioners who told them not to store food were ignored; they were deemed no longer relevant, they had nothing practical to teach, and were relegated to the rubbish pile along with other failures of history.
People, these spirituality grifters are irrelevant. We are in a climate and ecological crisis and the midst of the 6th mass extinction, food and energy crisis: They are telling you NOT TO PREPARE while living on a smallholding growing food for themselves and telling you preparing is not helpful.
